In a convenience store, the cold vault is not back-of-house infrastructure. It is the most profitable square footage in the building, and it gets treated as such by the operators who do well.
Two things follow from that. The first is that door count and layout are merchandising decisions, not refrigeration ones. How many linear feet of glass you have, how the product is lit, and whether a customer can see what they want from the aisle all move sales more than the cooler's efficiency rating does. Even lighting down to the bottom shelf matters, because that is usually where the higher-margin single-serve product sits.
The second is that downtime is expensive in a way it is not elsewhere. A restaurant with a failed cooler loses inventory. A c-store with a dark beer cave on a Friday loses the weekend. That is why we stock doors and panels in Texas rather than ordering everything in, and why we handle refrigeration alongside the box.
Beer caves add their own wrinkle: a walk-in the public enters has to hold temperature while the door cycles constantly, needs floor and lighting a customer will walk into, and has to look finished rather than industrial. It is a different build from a stockroom cooler that happens to be the same size.
From new builds to remodels, PanelTX handles c-store cold storage projects of every size. One team, one call. Reach us at 682-402-4080 or request a quote.
