Panels sit still for twenty years. The door gets opened, slammed, propped, and hit with a pallet jack several thousand times a month, which is why the door is almost always what brings us back to a building.
A plug door earns its name from how it seals. Rather than closing against a face gasket, it seats into the opening so the gasket compresses on all four sides. That geometry holds temperature better than a flush door and it keeps holding it after a few years of hard use, when a face seal has usually started to leak at the corners.
What separates a door that lasts from one that does not comes down to hardware and heat. G90 galvanized skins resist the corrosion that kitchen humidity causes. A diamond-tread kickplate takes the cart and pallet-jack damage instead of the door skin. Heavy hinges and a properly adjusted closer keep the door hanging square, because a door that has dropped even slightly stops sealing at the top corner. And in a freezer, anti-sweat heat in the frame is what stops the perimeter from icing shut.
We stock two sizes in Texas so a failed door does not mean weeks of propping it closed with a mop bucket, and we can hang replacements in existing openings from most manufacturers.
