What Determines the Panel You Need

Cold room panels look interchangeable in a catalog and are not. Three things decide which one belongs in your building, and getting any of them wrong shows up later as frost, condensation, or an energy bill nobody budgeted for.

Temperature and duty cycle. A cooler holding 35F and a freezer holding -10F are different insulation problems, and a room that gets opened four hundred times a shift is a different problem again from one opened twice a day. Door traffic drives more panel decisions than most people expect.

Floor condition. Freezers on grade need protection against frost heave under the slab. That is where glycol floor systems come in, and it is the single most common thing a low-bid cold room quote leaves out. If a quote you are comparing does not mention the floor, that is the gap.

Code and occupancy. Fire rating, smoke development, and structural loads all change with the building the room sits inside. We build to IBC requirements and specify fire-rated assemblies where the occupancy calls for them.

Cold Room Panel Questions

What is a glycol freezer floor and do I need one?It is a heated loop under the freezer slab that stops the ground below from freezing and heaving, which would otherwise crack the floor over time. Any large freezer built on grade should have one. A small freezer on an insulated raised floor usually does not.

Can you build a cold room inside an occupied building?Yes, and most of ours are. Panels are cut to your dimensions and assembled in place, so the constraint is the doorway and the route in rather than the finished room size.

Why is my existing cooler sweating?Usually a thermal break somewhere in the envelope, a failed vapor barrier, or door frames without anti-sweat heat. In Texas humidity it shows up fast. We can look at an existing room and tell you whether it is a repair or a replacement.

Do you handle the refrigeration too?Yes. Panels, doors, coving, condensing units, and compressor racks come from one team. That matters most when something goes wrong, because there is only one number to call.
